Sports in thr 17th Century

Sports in the 17th Century
Sports in the 1600’s were nothing like what we have today, today we have soccer, football, hockey, baseball and many more. In the 1600’s they played sports like archery, jousting, fencing and horse racing. Those were the main sports in the 1600’s. I will be making a paragraph on each sport.
Archery
Archery in the 1600's usually wasn't a weapon for war but a competition weapon. Archers stood and shot at small targets, large targets, and even moving targets. Archery could be used to win the heart of a lady. Archery took great skill and concentration from each competitor.

Jousting

Jousting was usually held in large arenas with wide hallways where each competitor would come through. Jousts were composed of two men that sat on horses charging at each other with a joust. Who ever would knock each other off their horse would win. Jousting awards after a win could be armour, weapons, and even the horses.

Fencing

Fencing like jousts were composed of two men duelling each other. Fencing had it's own sets of rules like you must wear a mask. Competitors must have a lot of respect for each other as the sport was very strict. Competitors bowed before each dual began.

Horse Racing

Horse racing was a very popular sport to watch in the 1600's. Before that that horse racing was not tooken seriously. In the 1600's they started breeding horses specificely for horse racing. Horse racing track could be a 400 metre round track or could be a straight 100 or 200 metre track.
